At Holm, history is preserved in the landscape. Follow the cultural heritage trail and discover traces of the people who lived here more than 1,500 years ago.

Along the 3.3 km cultural heritage trail in outer Bindal, visitors can explore an area where people have lived for more than 1,500 years. The walk starts at the Solvang community hall, follows paths past the old churchyard at Solstad and down towards the shoreline, before winding through a landscape with Iron Age burial mounds – and returning to Holm Camping.

At seven stops with information boards along the route, stories are shared about the burial mounds, wildlife, plant life and what everyday life here once looked like. The Solstad area contains traces of settlement dating back to around the beginning of the Common Era, and the burial mounds point to people of high status – perhaps local chieftains or early community leaders who once shaped life in the area, all experienced at your own pace.

Along the way, you will hear about:

1. Solstad old church and churchyard

2. Langstranda

3. Iron Age burial site

4. Meierivegen

5. Langhaugen

6. Utsikten

The audio guide is available in Norwegian, English and German, and is well suited for both Norwegian and international visitors. No prior knowledge is needed – just a mobile phone, earphones, and a curiosity to explore.

Holm Cultural Heritage Trail was developed by Nord‑Vedstrand School and Nord‑Vedstrand Activity Group in collaboration with Bindal Municipality, Nordland County Council and the NTNU University Museum in Trondheim. The project is the result of strong local engagement combined with professional support, with the aim of making cultural heritage accessible to anyone who wants to walk, learn and explore.

The trail can be walked year-round, as long as it is free of snow and ice.

Bindal is located along County Road 17, in the southern part of Helgeland.
