Looking for a unique nature experience? Austerdalsisen, Svartisen is located just north of Mo i Rana. Svartisdal takes you by boat across Svartisvatnet so you can witness this spectacular glacier.

To reach the starting point, take the exit from E6 towards Røssvoll (Mo i Rana Airport) and follow the signs along Svartisdalveien towards Svartisen. There is a large parking area available for motorhomes and campers, and it is also possible to find camping spots for tents. In the kiosk, you can purchase drinks, snacks, and souvenirs. There are toilets available at the parking area, but none closer to the glacier.

After a 10-minute boat ride across the water, a 3 km hike follows. The hike goes over solid rock and begins with a steady ascent before flattening out towards a popular viewpoint. Here, there is a shelter where you can enjoy your packed food and drinks while taking in the view of the glacier arm. Most visitors are satisfied with the view from here and start their return journey.

The weather near the glacier can change quickly, so even if it’s sunny and warm in the city, we recommend bringing a windbreaker and some extra layers of clothing. Remember to take everything you bring with you back home.

There is no mobile coverage at the glacier.

As you head north from Mo i Rana, you will take the exit from E6 towards Røssvoll (Mo i Rana Airport) and continue along Svartisdalveien until you reach Svartisvatnet, where the boat departs. The road is well signposted, making it easy to navigate.
