Halibutskole Vandve offers a holiday stay where you’ll have some really great fishing opportunities. Guests who appreciate the arts and creative crafts will be pleased to know that a glassblower has a workshop nearby.

Adventures and activities

Vandve is a relatively flat island in Dønna municipality – in fact, its highest point rises only 27 metres above sea level. The seas along the scenic Helgeland coast are renowned for offering some of the best fishing in all of Norway. The waters around the island of Vandve are known to offer especially good catches of halibut, turbot and plaice, but also many other fish species.

The Halibut holiday compound offers boat rental. Its two 17-foot boats have 50-horsepower engines and come fully equipped with echo sounders, chart plotters and digital charts, as well as rescue equipment. The property also has a hut for cleaning fish, freezers, and a drying room.

However, Vandve offers far more than fishing. The island is an ideal base for kayaking on the surrounding waters, and easy hiking excursions. Vandve has a rich birdlife, and you may see wildlife such as deer, moose and otter, as well as whales that favour the nearby waters.

Summer:

The summer weather on the Helgeland coast can vary a lot, with temperatures typically ranging from 15 to 30˚C – and summer showers are not unknown. We recommend that you bring swimwear as well as an all-weather jacket, and both hiking boots and sandals. In other words, be ready for every kind of weather.

Winter:

In winter, temperatures vary from –15 to 5˚C. If you intend to enjoy outdoor adventures, we recommend packing woollen underwear and windproof outerwear. By layering the garments you wear, you can quickly adjust to any change in the weather. We also recommend thick gloves or mittens, a good scarf and a warm hat, especially if you expect to be spending a lot of time outside, for instance if you are trying to catch the Northern Lights.
