Get warm in the wood-fired sauna inside Træna’s oldest boathouse, then cool off with a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear sea just outside.

Træna’s oldest boathouse has been transformed into a cosy sauna and a shared space for gatherings. From the sauna, you can step straight down into the sea. It’s heated with a traditional wood-burning stove.

The sauna is open for public use at regular intervals, but you can also book it for private groups. Occasionally, there are talks, art projects, film screenings, concerts, or themed “sauna sessions.”

The renovation was part of the Artist in Residence programme Air Træna, led by Maja Hallén. Most of the work was done inside, while the exterior still shows the marks of wind, saltwater, and time on the old structure.

The sauna is run by dedicated locals through the Træna Sauna Boathouse association.

The sauna is located right next to Havfolkets Hus, on the south side of Husøya in Træna. The entrance is just beside the main entrance to Havfolkets Hus.

Welcome to Træna

Far out at sea, with only the open ocean and Iceland as its next neighbor to the west, you’ll find the Træna archipelago. Out here, the “sea people” reside, along with fish and birds, amidst hundreds of large and small islands, islets, and reefs.
