Guided tours in Støttvær

Støttvær is a especially scenic archipelago on the northern Helgeland coast, just off Ørnes in Meløy. The sheltered, shallow waters among the islands and islets create ideal, calm paddling conditions. For those seeking more variety, the open sea is just a short paddle away, offering a chance to test yourself in tougher conditions.

Certified by the Norwegian Paddle Federation, the local guides are qualified activity leaders who can tailor the tours to your skill level. During midsummer, you can paddle in the midnight sun, while in autumn and winter, you can experience kayaking under the northern lights. These local guides enrich each tour with their knowledge of the area and its stories.

You’re welcome to bring your own equipment, or you can rent whatever you need from Padleheimen. For dedicated kayak enthusiasts, there are also three unique, canvas kayaks available to try.

Støttvær is known as a rich bird nesting area, with most islands designated as nature reserves where landing is restricted during nesting season. However, you’ll have ample opportunities to observe a diverse birdlife from the water, with seals and sea eagles frequently spotted among the islands and skerries.

Kayak courses

At Padleheimen, you can take introductory courses, foundation courses, technique classes, and even specialized training in surf kayaking and Eskimo rolls. The courses follow the Norwegian Paddle Federation’s curriculum, and participants receive a “Våttkort” certification upon completion.

Courses are typically held at Padleheimen’s base in Støtt, but they can also arrange courses at other locations upon request.

Accommodation and other activities

Padleheimen offers accommodations for larger groups in a house, as well as a smaller annex that can host up to five adults. Additional lodging options are available in the area, and you can also rent tents and hammocks if you’d like to experience the outdoors overnight.

They also have diving masks and snorkels available if you’d like a closer look at life underwater. The drysuits provided for kayaking ensure that you stay warm and buoyant.
