In the beautiful island kingdom of Rødøy municipality lies Gjerøy – a vibrant island with around 50 year-round residents, surrounded by the open sea and sheltered coves. Here, you can unwind, explore the coastal landscape, and stay in authentic, historic houses – each with its own character and view.

Hagland – room for togetherness in a historic 19th-century house

Stay in the old sheriff’s residence, a rare, well-preserved home from the 1800s, with spacious living rooms and plenty of space for the whole family. The house has 5 bedrooms and 7 beds, making it ideal for two families travelling together. With a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, and two cosy lounges, everything is set for peaceful evenings and shared meals.

Lyngvågen Kafé

Hagland is within walking distance of the express boat quay on Gjerøy. Here, you stay close to the island’s beautiful nature with several lovely hiking trails, as well as the local shop and the cosy Lyngvågen Café. And yes – dogs are welcome, too.

Hansinestua – tranquility by the sea in Gjerøyhamn

Enjoy the peace and the view from Hansinestua, a charming house in Gjerøyhamn with the sea as your closest neighbour and seabirds for company. The house has 4 bedrooms and 7 beds, and combines simple standards with a peaceful and quiet atmosphere. Here, you can enjoy your morning coffee as the Hurtigruten ship passes by, and fall asleep to the sound of waves in the evening.

Hansinestua has electricity, but no running water. There is an outdoor toilet in the yard, and washing water is collected from an outdoor tap. Drinking water is brought from Gjerøy. The house is reached by boat across the channel from Gjerøy, and the host will assist with transport.

Nearby you’ll find the beautiful garden of Johnny Losvik, featured in the NRK programme Der ingen skulle tru at nokon kunne bu (“Where no one thought anyone could live”). The garden is a botanical treasure, filled with beautiful flowers and clouds of butterflies in the plum trees.
