Ytri Island Retreat in Træna – where nature, culture, and hospitality meet

At Ytri Island Retreat, you stay at the edge of the spectacular Helgeland coastline – surrounded by sea, islets, and mountains, with nature close at hand and tranquility as a natural part of your stay. The rooms are elegantly furnished with high-quality furniture and textiles, carefully selected for comfort and a cozy atmosphere. All rooms offer views of the sea and the iconic mountain Trænstaven.

A place with soul and presence

Explore the island on foot or by bike, or set out from the dock with a kayak, SUP board, or canoe. You can dive, fish, or join a boat tour between the islands with the hosts. For a gentler start, visit the yoga room or fitness area in the boathouse. After a day of activity, relax in the wellness area with saunas, cold plunge, hot tub, and panoramic sea views. Guests can borrow kayaks, SUP boards, diving and fishing gear, and bicycles.

Nature-based experiences

Culinary experiences with local flavors

Dining at Ytri is a central part of the experience. Enjoy dishes made from fresh coastal ingredients and vegetables from the resort’s greenhouse. Choose between the seafood restaurant, an evening at the chef’s table, or a casual meal in the lounge bar – always with the sea as your backdrop. Every bite tells a story of the local nature and people.

For those seeking something genuine

Ytri Island Retreat is for travelers who value quality, comfort, and a true connection to the place they visit. Here, experiences are offered with respect for nature, culture, and the local community. Ytri is more than a hotel – it is a living meeting place where people, nature, and culture come together.

Welcome to Træna

Far out at sea, with only the open ocean and Iceland as its next neighbor to the west, you’ll find the Træna archipelago. Out here, the “sea people” reside, along with fish and birds, amidst hundreds of large and small islands, islets, and reefs.
