Enjoy long, bright summer days or a beautiful winter visit to Onøy and Lurøy. Experience island life, coastal culture, and scenic hiking areas. Go kayaking in the sheltered archipelago, visit neighbouring islands like Lovund, Træna, and Hestmannøy — and end the day with the evening sun by the pier or a quiet moment in the sauna.

Lurøy Rorbuer is idyllically located between the islands of Onøy, Lurøy, and Røssøya, with stunning views of the midnight sun to the northwest in summer, the northern lights in autumn and winter, and impressive mountains like Hestmannen and Lurøyfjellet.

These islands offer both beautiful mountain hikes and peaceful paddling routes, along with relaxing days in the village. Visit the lovely Renaissance garden at Lurøygården, explore the charming Coastal Culture Centre, and enjoy a coffee and a chat at the local shop’s café corner — just a short walk from the rorbu cabins. The rorbu site also has a fantastic sauna nearby, perfect for unwinding after the day’s adventures, big or small.

From Onøy, you’ll also find excellent express boat connections to the surrounding islands, making it easy to go on day trips to places like the Solvær Islands, Lovund, and Træna — or inland to the dramatic mountains of Aldersundet.

The islands of Onøy and Lurøy lie just south of the Arctic Circle — about an hour from Mo i Rana and a 45-minute ferry ride from Stokkvågen. You can also get there by express boat from various stops between Bodø in the north and Sandnessjøen in the south.

Please:

  • Strive to leave no trace of your visit. Bring back all your rubbish, including used toilet paper, and discard it in the nearest rubbish bin.
