In the heart of the coastal village of Nesna, overlooking the fjord and the islands of Tomma, Hugla, and Handnesøya, you’ll find the newly opened Hotell Sjyen.

After several decades without a hotel in the village, this locally run hotel aims to offer both travellers and locals a gathering place — and a starting point for a genuine Helgeland experiences, all year round.

Small, welcoming, and authentic

The hotel has nine bright and comfortable rooms, all with private bathrooms and breakfast included. It’s set up to accommodate everyone: people with disabilities, those with allergies, and guests travelling with pets will feel at home here. It’s location provides easy access to the ferry terminal, hiking trails, and local attractions — whether you’re heading out to the islands or simply looking to enjoy the calm.

Local flavours and a seasonal restaurant

Breakfast is served in the hotel’s dining room year-round, and during the summer season, the restaurant is open for dinner as well. The menu features locally sourced ingredients, with halibut as the signature dish. The reception is happy to offer tips on nearby nature experiences and activities — from kayaking and hiking to cultural sites and coastal history.

A hotel with local roots

The building once housed a clothing store, but has now been transformed into a small and inviting hotel with a focus on local value creation. The project is run by passionate locals committed to offering warm hospitality and creating a place guests will want to return to.

The hotel opens its doors in July 2025, and is open year-round.

Nesna is located in the middle of the Helgeland coast, about a one-hour drive north from Sandnessjøen, or one hour west from Mo i Rana.

The hotel is situated right next to the Nesna ferry terminal.
