A historic and charming place to stay in the heart of the Helgeland archipelago, with views of mountains, sea, and a vibrant island community. Doktorgården on Lurøya is a welcoming choice for anyone wanting to experience the Helgeland coast up close — whether travelling solo, as a couple, with family, or with friends.

Stay in the old doctor’s office – now with modern comfort.

Originally built in 1944, Doktorgården served as the island’s medical office for many years. Today, it has been renovated inside and offers year-round accommodation.

The house features bright, refurbished rooms that blend historic charm with modern comfort. There are four rooms for rent: three double rooms with double beds, and one family room that sleeps up to five. The family room includes a double bed and a bunk bed with a wider lower bunk, suitable for two children. All rooms share common toilets and showers, but some rooms have their own sink. Bed linen and towels are always included.

Guests have access to a fully equipped shared kitchen and a cosy dining area, perfect for preparing meals, enjoying your morning coffee, and sharing stories from the day. A washing machine and drying room are also available — ideal after a mountain hike or kayaking trip.

At the heart of island life — close to nature

Doktorgården is centrally located on Lurøya, within walking distance of the beach, small boat harbour, local museum, Lurøy Church (built in 1812), and a second-hand shop with café. You’ll be immersed in the rhythms of daily life in this island municipality, all while surrounded by peaceful and natural surroundings.

Right behind the house rises Lurøyfjellet, and the hike to the summit offers sweeping views of the Helgeland coast and the surrounding islands. In summer, the nearby waters are perfect for kayaking. In winter, the island offers quiet, northern lights, and clear starry skies.

On the island, you can also rent bikes, SUP boards, kayaks, and a sauna through Hjem – Lurøy utleie.

Welcome to Doktorgården – a peaceful base for exploring the nature, community, and quiet beauty of the Helgeland coast.
