In 2025, Mosjøen celebrates 150 years as a town, and you’re invited to the party – or FÆST,as the locals say.

In 2025, we’ll come together. By reflecting on Mosjøen, we’ll connect more deeply with each other and our shared history. We’ll dance, sing, play music, hike the mountains, share meals, chat, and create unforgettable memories.

The anniversary will be celebrated throughout the year, divided into five themed periods: Looking Back, Moments, Midpoint, Overview, and Insights.

Looking back helps us understand ourselves and others. We’ll explore Mosjøen’s history from 1875 to the present, gaining insight into Vefsn’s cultural heritage. The Vefsna River symbolizes the town’s birth, progress, and innovation. Flowing through several municipalities, merging with the Vefsnfjord, Sjøgata, Øyfjellet, and Dolstadøra, it connects Mosjøen to the wider world.

How long is a moment? In Mosjøen’s endless summer days, time slows down, letting you live in the now. Sjøgata, with its preserved 19th-century wooden houses, is a symbol of community and a lively town center where trade, businesses, cafés, tourism, and culture have brought people together for centuries. Past and present merge here, creating moments that shape the future.

Midpoint is a youth-led, alcohol-free culture festival held over five Saturdays in August, with Villa Tørrissen in Mosjøen’s center as its base. Young producers from Ung i Mosjøen will plan, promote, and run the festival, offering music experiences combined with physical activities, dance, film, art, debates, and sustainability initiatives. A major concert is also in the works for August.

Overview means seeing the bigger picture. It’s about carrying the past and present into the future and creating new stories. In autumn, people will gather for reflection, with Øyfjellet as a symbolic foundation for envisioning the future. Standing atop Øyfjellet gives you a sweeping view of the town and a glimpse of the world beyond. What do you see?

What Insights will we gain in 2025? About people, the town, or the world? In December, we’ll reflect on doubts, beliefs, and hopes while asking ourselves: Who are we really? Dolstad Church, the heritage museum, and the aluminum plant at Dolstadøra represent development and offer insight into life from the 17th century to the present.
