There are thousands of mountains in Helgeland, some more distinctive than others. A few have been important landmarks for seafarers since time immemorial. Some of the mountains are mentioned in the legend of the Seven Sisters. Other mountains just look like they emerged from a fairytale.

One of the best ways to explore the Helgeland coast is to go “island hopping” with the Nordland Express! This express boat route offers a special Summer Route. You can jump off anywhere you like, and continue your journey whenever you wish.

The Helgeland coast is almost as long as it is beautiful, and to reach the islands and cross the fjords, you need to travel by ferry or express boat. It provides you with a lovely opportunity to see the Helgeland coast from the sea, and the trips become like small fjord cruises in themselves. Kvarøy is a small island located between Lurøy and Hestmona, on the northern part of the Helgeland coast. The island has beautiful beaches, a local store, good dining options, a fantastic playground with a cool pump track. It is also a lovely starting point for sea excursions by boat or kayak, or trips to the other islands in Lurøy and Rødøy.

Fykantrappa is a wooden staircase over a hundred years old, built by "rallar" construction workers in 1916 during the construction of the Glomfjord power plant. The staircase was used as a hiking trail until 2020, but it is now closed as it is no longer considered safe to use.
