Helgeland has several large glaciers. Those most accessible to visitors are Svartisen and Okstindbreen.
The Nordlandsruta is 650 kilometers long, divided into eight sections with a total of 43 daily stages. It takes you along the border mountains of Nordland, from Hattfjelldal in the south to the Narvik Mountains in the north. Fifteen of the stages pass through Helgeland, spread across the four southernmost sections of the route.
Far out at sea, with only the open ocean and Iceland as the next neighbor to the west, lies the archipelago of Træna. Out here, coastal people, fish, and birds live among hundreds of large and small islands, islets and skerries.
The hike to Tortenkøta is an easy and family-friendly walk along the Coastal Route (Kystriksveien) near Flostrand. By the shelter, you'll find small pools and natural rock slides — a great place for the family to swim and relax.
