Join the sailing trip on the beautiful Nordland boat Faragut and experience Helgeland from the sea just as people here have done since the Viking Age. The Nordland boat is an open, low, and sturdy wooden boat that has its roots all the way back to the Viking ships, and it's an experience to stand at the helm when the wind fills the sail.
To sail in an open boat, as the Vikings did, is an experience like no other. Travelling through the beautiful coastal landscapes, with the archipelago towards the open sea, and the deep, forest-clad mystical fjords, takes on a timeless perspective when done in an authentic Nordland boat.
The boats that the Faragut Association takes on trips are locally built in Bindal, by boatbuilders who carry the knowledge and expertise that has been passed down from one boatbuilder to another for hundreds of years. They are built properly, meticulously, and carefully, with respect for what a boat should withstand for a safe and pleasant journey on the ocean and fjord. When the sails are hoisted in such a boat, and the wind catches them, you can feel the entire boat come alive!
Trips with Faragut
The crew on Faragut are intimately familiar with the fjords and sea areas around Bindal, and they plan the trips based on what you feel like doing and what suits the weather and wind conditions for that day. Everyone can join the boat, whether you're 1 year old or 101 years old. Read More

In 1918, a lighthouse was built on the fishing village of Myken, far out towards the open sea. It was guarded and cared for by a lighthouse keeper, his wife, their five children — and a cow. In 1975, the lighthouse was automated, and in 2018 it was beautifully renovated by Eventyrlig Oppussing (a Norwegian home renovation TV show). Today, you can stay here and experience the unique atmosphere of having your very own small island on the Helgeland coast.
Between sky and sea, far from the mainland, on Jutøya in the old fishing village of Myken, you'll find Myken Lighthouse. Standing like a final outpost against the vast ocean to the west, it has kept steady watch over the tiny island community for more than a hundred years. Here, you can stay with the whole island practically to yourselves, just a short boat ride across the strait to everything Myken has to offer.
