At Solværøyan Birds and Beds, you’ll find unique accommodations and rare nature experiences in one of the Helgeland coast’s finest birdwatching paradises. Sleneset is part of the Solvær Islands.

Solværøyan Birds and Beds offers stays in off-the-beaten-path locations where you can unwind and enjoy the simplicity of life close to nature. Their two accommodations, Smia and Hubroheimen, are ideally situated in the kayaking and birdwatching paradise of the Solvær Islands, roughly in the middle of the Helgeland coast. Kayak rentals are also available.

Smia

Smia (“the forge”) is a charming old log cabin with space for up to four guests, located on Lunderøya, a short boat ride from the village of Sleneset. Solværøyan Birds & Beds provides boat transport. The cabin has two bedrooms with four single beds, basic amenities, and the option to buy fresh fish from the fishing boat that docks on the island.

Step out of the cabin, and you’re right in the heart of nature. Lunderøya is just 2.5 kilometers long and about 1 kilometer wide, with only a few scattered cabins and plenty of space for exploring at your own pace. You can forage for berries, observe birdlife, paddle a kayak, swim under the midnight sun, or simply sit by the kitchen window and watch how the changing weather transforms the landscape.

Hubroheimen

Getting to Hubroheimen from the village of Sleneset is an adventure in itself. Located on Ulvøya, the cabin is connected to Sleneset by a suspension bridge. From there, a marked trail leads through a beautiful birch forest to the cozy smallholding. It’s not a long hike, but if you have heavy luggage, boat transport from Solværøyan Birds & Beds is also an option.

Hubroheimen accommodates up to six people, with three bedrooms and a detached annex. It features electricity, a dishwasher, and a rainwater-fed shower. There’s an outhouse and no internet, but there is mobile coverage. This is the perfect spot for disconnecting from the digital world and reconnecting with nature.

Guests will also meet the resident animals, including rabbits, coastal goats, and chickens, which they’re encouraged to help care for. These simple and enjoyable tasks, combined with the serene setting, add a special sense of calm to your stay.

Ulvøya has little development and plenty of scenic trails. The rich birdlife and unique coastal light make it a dream location for photographers and birdwatchers.

Guided bird safari

Solværøyan Birds and Beds also offers guided bird safaris by boat during fall, spring, and winter. These tours are designed for birdwatchers and photographers eager to see the Eurasian eagle-owl, Norway’s largest owl.

The Solvær Islands are among the best places to spot this endangered bird. Tours are only offered outside the nesting season, from June 1 to August 10, to ensure the safety of the owls.

Solværøyan Birds & Beds welcomes guests year-round. Each season has its charm, but autumn and winter weather can be challenging, which may occasionally limit boat tours.

Sleneset is part of the Solvær islands, located between Lurøy and Lovund, west of Mo i Rana. You can reach it by ferry or express boat from Stokkvågen or by private boat.
