On the mountain pass between the villages lies Korgfjellet – a place where people have stopped for generations. What began as a small mountain lodge in 1972 has grown into a complete mountain retreat with cabins, a sauna, and a seasonal restaurant. Still, the core remains the same: warmth, good food, and welcoming hosts in the heart of the mountains.

Korgfjellet is a beautiful mountain area situated between the cities of Mosjøen and Mo i Rana. Here, you can enjoy easy terrain along marked hiking trails during the summer and groomed ski tracks during the winter.

Today, Korgfjellet is run by Asgeir and his family, who have developed the place into a natural stop for mountain travellers, tourists, and anyone crossing the pass. It is just as natural to stop for a break as it is to stay a little longer – whether guests come for the views, the quiet, or the food.

All food at Korgfjellet is made from scratch, with a clear connection to local ingredients and traditions. The menu includes high-quality salmon from Helgeland, tender lamb, and homemade desserts. Still, there are two things guests talk about most: the stone-baked pizza and the kamkake.

The pizza is baked in a stone oven and has earned a reputation well beyond Hemnes. Many people cross the mountain just for this. The kamkake is baked in a wood-fired oven, following an old family tradition from Leirskardalen. Made with rye flour and sourdough, no two are ever quite the same. It is a baked good that carries the taste of time, warmth, and craftsmanship – just as mountain food should.

Korgfjellet is more than a place to eat. Guests can stay in cabins, enjoy a sauna after a day outdoors, rent a bike, or simply take in the calm and the views. The restaurant is especially lively at weekends, when mountain folk and passers-by gather around the tables for a good meal.

As part of “A taste of Hemnes”, Korgfjellet represents the meeting point between local food and the destination itself. Here, ingredients and traditions are given new life in a mountain setting that invites both activity and rest. For some, Korgfjellet is a highlight of the journey. For others, it is a regular stop. Either way, it is a place where the mountains, the food, and the people naturally belong together.
