A hiking adventure: Himmelbergsteinen - Tonnesfjellet

Nice trip to the characteristic white “Himmelbergsteinen” on Tonnesfjellet in Lurøy.

Follow the forest road upwards for about 2 km. If you wish, you can take a detour to Tonnesgrotta and stop at the Grillhytta, which offers a great view early on in the trip.

There are two alternative routes up to Himmelbergtinden, and both are well-marked with red markers/poles. The trail is also mapped on Norgeskart Friluftsliv. The route over Garlitinden is 4 km, and the route along the “lia” is 4.7 km. Feel free to take one route up and the other route down.

At the top, you will be rewarded with views over the island realm of Lurøy, Rødøy, and Meløy, in addition to the mountain kingdom inland.

Parking: You can park at the store in Tonnes or at Tonnes Marina. There are a few spaces right where the forest road starts, but there should also be room for bus parking.

If you live or dine at Oscarbrygga, it’s a short walk along the road to the starting point.

Strive to leave no trace of your visit. Bring back all your rubbish, including used toilet paper, and discard it in the nearest rubbish bin.

Avoid loud and disturbing engine noise. Be aware that some islands and nature reserves are important nesting sites, and that going ashore is prohibited during the nesting season.
Follow the Norwegian Mountain Code (Fjellvettreglene). Plan your excursion according to the weather forecast, your skills and experience.
Join a guided excursion or consider hiring an experienced guide, especially when you don’t have sufficient experience or knowledge to guarantee a safe trip.
