LÅNAN – “THE EIDER DUCK VILLAGE”
Lånan is the largest eider duck nesting site in the Vega archipelago. Here, the islanders’ old tradition of building tiny “houses” for the migrating birds is very much alive. During the summer you can visit the “bird guardians” of Lånan and hear more about this heritage.
Lovund – a jewel on the Helgeland coast
Lovund, in Lurøy municipality, is one of the most distinctive islands on the Helgeland coast. It is beautifully situated facing the open sea. The island has 475 inhabitants and covers less than 5 km2. Despite its humble size, Lovund is one of the most entrepreneurial coastal communities, and it plays a leading role in Norwegian aquaculture.
Svartisen - Austerdalsisen glacier (inland)
Austerdalsisen glacier is reached via a 20 minute boat ride across Svartisvatnet, 32 km north of Mo i Rana. Svartisen is Norway’s second largest glacier, it has 60 glacier tongues and covers a full 370 km2. At just 20 m above sea level, it is the lowest glacier in mainland Europe, making it easily accessible for hikes and nature-based experiences.
